Tunnel to Towers Pays Mortgage, Renovates Home for FDNY Lieutenant Battling

9/11-Releated ALS

10 days before Christmas, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation delivers a life-changing gift to the family of FDNY Lieutenant Greg “Mickey” Hansen.

Lt. Hansen has been battling 9/11-related ALS, a progressive, debilitating disease that has no known cure.

During his career with the FDNY Lt. Hansen was cited multiple times for extraordinary bravery. He donated bone marrow to help a child in need and volunteered for Special Rescue Operations in New Orleans during the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

In a homecoming ceremony on December 15, Tunnel to Towers announces it has paid off the mortgage and unveils the extensive renovations the Foundation made on his Staten Island home.

Tunnel to Towers removed walls and carpet throughout the home to make it easier for Lt. Hansen to get around in a wheelchair or walker. The Foundation made the bathroom bigger and installed ADA equipment to make it easier for him to use. The Foundation also renovated the kitchen with new lighting, cabinets, flooring, countertops, and appliances including a motorized kitchen table that raises and lowers to wheelchair height.

Tunnel to Towers’ Season of Hope, celebrates the holiday season by lifting the financial burden of a mortgage from the families of fallen first responders, Gold Star families, and catastrophically injured veterans around the country.

This year alone, Tunnel to Towers will deliver over 200 mortgage-free homes across the country to our nation’s military and first responders by the end of the year.

Join us on our mission to provide mortgage-free homes to the heroes and the families they leave behind by donating $11 per month at t2t.org.
