Tunnel to Towers Foundation to Pay Off Mortgages on Homes of Slain First Responders

NEW YORK [JANUARY 8, 2024] – The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced today it will pay off the mortgages on the homes of slain Greensboro, North Carolina Police Sergeant Philip Dale Nix and George County, Mississippi Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Malone.

On December 30, Sgt. Nix was off duty when he intervened in a crime in progress and was fatally shot by the suspects.

Sgt. Nix served with the Greensboro Police Department since 2001. This tragedy is a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers daily to keep our streets safe. He leaves behind his wife Kelly, and their children.

Tunnel to Towers is honored to pay off the mortgage for the family of Sgt. Nix. We hope the knowledge they can stay in their home provides comfort to his family as they grieve this tremendous loss.” said Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Sgt. Nix comes from a family of dedicated public servants. His father is retired Greensboro Fire Captain Eddie Nix, his brother is active Firefighter Dan Nix, and his uncle is retired Assistant Chief Skip Nix.

Deputy Malone lost his life on January 4, while attempting to conduct a traffic stop. Deputy Malone is survived by his wife Hilary and his three daughters.

Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, stated, “This is a tragic way to start the new year, and underscores the risks America’s men and women in uniform confront every day. Tunnel to Towers will ensure the family this hero left behind can stay in their home, filled with memories of Jeremy forever.”

The Tunnel to Towers Fallen First Responder Home Program pays off the mortgages for the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty and leave behind young children.
