The mission of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor and support our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
For years the Foundation has built smart homes for catastrophically wounded service members and paid off the mortgages on the homes of fallen first responders across the country.
Now, in its time-honored tradition of taking care of the housing needs of our heroes, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has created the Gold Star Family Home Program. This program is specifically designed to provide mortgage-free homes to military families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
After a member of the military is killed, their family is only given one year of on-base housing before they are forced to move. Those families who don’t live on base are paid a modest amount of money to cover their housing needs for a finite amount of time.
This means that while still grieving their loss, the surviving spouse must find a new place to live, while taking children away from their schools, friends and daily routines.
Tunnel to Towers believes we have a duty to do better for the families of those whose loved ones have made the ultimate sacrifice. The Foundation is convinced a mortgage-free home gives widows the ability to provide a stable and secure future for themselves and their children.
The Gold Star Family Home Program just launched and already 10 Gold Star widows have already received their new homes.
These inspirational women have shared what these homes mean to them and their families – they told us that they feel that now they can set down real roots with their children while providing a stable, loving environment.
Our Gold Star widows have also told us that freeing them from the overwhelming financial burden of monthly rent or mortgage payments has allowed them to turn their attention to their careers and take the necessary steps – through additional job training, or college courses – to enhance their professional prospects.
That said, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation believes that when a hero goes to war, they should not have to worry about what will become of their family if they do not make it home – we believe that all of us have a duty to relieve these men and women of that profound burden.
We have identified the need for 1000 of these homes at an anticipated cost of $250 million. Understandably we will need your help to achieve that goal. You will have the opportunity to join our effort for just $11 a month, a modest gift that will make all the difference in the world.
We are honored to have you join our Gold Star Family Home Program and assist us as we ensure that the dreams these fallen heroes had for their families still come true.
