The Tunnel to Towers Foundation Breaks Ground on Buffalo Veterans Village
Ceremony took place on Thursday, October 10, 2024
BUFFALO, NEW YORK [October 10, 2024] — The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit that supports America’s first responders, Gold Star families, and military veterans, is bringing its mission to eradicate Veteran Homelessness to Erie County, New York.
On Thursday, October 10, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and local officials broke ground on the Buffalo Veterans Village.
At 3600 Harlem Road Tunnel to Towers will demolish the long-vacant nuisance property, and build an apartment complex that will offer affordable housing to more than 90 veterans.
Once complete, the Veterans Village will provide on-site comprehensive support services for its residents to break the cycle of homelessness. Services offered on-site include job training, benefits assistance, education assistance, medical care access, mental health support + PTSD counseling, and addiction treatment.
In 2023, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation launched its Homeless Veteran Program with the ambitious mission to eradicate Veteran homelessness nationwide. There are currently Veterans Villages operating in Houston, Texas; Riverside, California; West Los Angeles, California; and Phoenix, Arizona.
Construction is underway on Villages in Bradenton, Florida, Mableton, Georgia, and Island Park, New York. Tunnel to Towers is planning to start construction on Veterans Villages in Denver, Colorado; North Charleston, South Carolina; Detroit, Michigan, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before the end of the year.
Through these villages and its case management network, Tunnel to Towers has provided housing assistance to over 6,500 Veterans nationwide.
Tunnel to Towers continues its original mission to support America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
