SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN [October 22, 2024] — The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit that supports America’s first responders, Gold Star families, and military veterans, is bringing its mission to eradicate Veteran Homelessness to Southfield, Michigan.

On Tuesday, October 22, at 10:00 A.M., the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and local officials hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Detroit Veterans Village.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has purchased the hotel at 25100 Northwestern Highway in Southfield. The former Holiday Inn Express & Suites will be renovated to provide housing assistance and support services to nearly 100 veterans in the Detroit metro area.

Once completed, the Veterans Village will provide on-site comprehensive support services for its residents to break the cycle of homelessness. Services offered on-site include job training, benefits assistance, education assistance, medical care access, mental health support and PTSD counseling, and addiction treatment.

In 2023, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation launched its Homeless Veteran Program with the ambitious mission to eradicate Veteran homelessness nationwide. Tunnel to Towers Veterans Villages are open in Houston, Texas; Riverside, California; West Los Angeles, California; and Phoenix, Arizona.

Construction is underway on Villages in Bradenton, Florida, Mableton, Georgia, and Island Park, New York. Tunnel to Towers is planning to start construction on Veterans Villages in Denver, Colorado; North Charleston, South Carolina; and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before the end of the year.

Through these villages and its case management network, Tunnel to Towers has provided housing assistance to over 6,500 Veterans nationwide.

Tunnel to Towers continues its original mission to support America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and building specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
