On Wednesday, August 13, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation celebrated the completion of Phase II of its Houston Veterans Village, with the opening of 14 Comfort Homes. The Comfort Homes complement the Village, serving as permanent housing for senior citizen veterans.

The Comfort Homes are 500-square-foot homes, which are fully-furnished with a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living space. They were built in the United States and were transported to the property in Houston, Texas. Additionally, the homes provide a private, permanent space for elder veterans to live with comfort and dignity, while being close enough to utilize the wrap-around services that are available in the main Veterans Village building.

A sector of the Homeless Veteran Program, the Houston Veterans Village is a full-scale conversion of a 161-room hotel in Houston, Texas, into a high-end, affordable apartment complex. It currently provides permanent and transitional housing, as well as supportive services, to veterans in the greater Houston area.

Tunnel to Towers’ Homeless Veteran Program is committed to ending veteran homelessness nationwide. The program honors the sacrifice and dignity of the American Service Member by ensuring that no veteran is left out on the streets of the country they volunteered to defend.

Houston is one of several dozen current and future building sites. To date, the Homeless Veteran Program has provided housing and access to supportive services to over 10,000 veterans.
