In remembrance of the 20th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th terrorist attacks, Smith & Warren, a leading manufacturer of metal badges and insignia worn by public safety professionals, donated $31,675 to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation— the preeminent 9/11 foundation born from the tragedy of that day.
Lee Galperin, the President of Smith & Warren, presented a check to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, alongside two of his colleagues: Sales Manager Sal Raniolo and Controller Adam Eckstein.
The funds were raised through the sale of 9/11 20th Anniversary badges and insignias that were designed by various public safety and law enforcement agencies across the United States, with 10% of the proceeds going directly to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s programs. These badges and insignia were designed to honor the heroic legacies of the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives responding to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, as well as those who are suffering from 9/11-related illnesses they contracted while helping in the large-scale recovery rescue mission in the weeks and months following the attacks in the piles of ash and debris.
“We have made it part of our company’s mission to give back to the public safety community through partnerships with great charities. For the 9/11 20th Anniversary program, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation was our first choice because of the direct support they provide to first responders and their families in times of need,” said Lee Galperin.
The public safety professionals around the country wore their commemorative 9/11 badges and insignias on their uniforms to remember the 2,977 lives tragically lost on America’s Darkest Day, which includes 343 members of the New York City Fire Department, 23 officers from the New York City Police Department, 37 officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, and 3 court officers with the New York State Courts. These badges are symbols of solidarity and of the of the collective grief felt by all Americans after the attacks on 9/11, and the lasting effects that these acts of terrorism has had on Americans across the country.
“The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is so appreciative of Smith & Warren. We are grateful for their generosity, and that they share our determination in making sure America Never Forgets the lives lost twenty years ago. Knowing that this donation came from first responder communities around the country, seeking to honor their fallen peers, is very special,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO Frank Siller.
