United States Air Force Senior Airman Michael Ciccone grew up in the suburbs of metro Atlanta, where his childhood was shaped by the open skies, winding mountain trails, and trips to the nearby coast with family.
As a young man seeking direction and a deeper sense of purpose, Ciccone made a pivotal decision that would shape his future. On May 19, 1999, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. The military offered him the opportunity to be part of something meaningful, while providing the camaraderie and global travel that he loved. Ciccone served with distinction, earning two achievement medals for his outstanding service to his unit, both at home and while deployed. He cherished the bonds he formed with his fellow airmen and took pride in being part of something greater than himself.
While serving our country, Ciccone began experiencing symptoms which were later diagnosed as service connected Multiple Sclerosis, a life-altering condition that gradually progressed, eventually leaving him wheelchair-bound and with significant weakness and spasticity in his hands, arms, and legs. Despite the physical challenges, Ciccone’s spirit remained unshaken. He adapted, finding new ways to express his creativity and stay connected to the world around him. Today, he channels his energy into video editing and flying drones. He loves spending time with his wife, children, family, and friends, traveling whenever they can.
The support of Tunnel to Towers has brought Ciccone a sense of independence and peace of mind, allowing him to focus on what matters most: being present for his family and loved ones. The modifications to his home have eased his daily burdens.Â
Ciccone’s journey is one of courage and gratitude. Though his body may face limitations, he refuses to let his disabilities define him, and instead, he continues to provide, inspire, and live with joy. Surrounded by the unwavering love of his family, United States Air Force Senior Airman Michael Ciccone is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of purpose.
