United States Army Sergeant Kevin Gatson grew up in Durant, Mississippi. He was raised by his grandmother and was very active as a child, playing sports such as football and basketball, along with playing video games. Gatson grew up the oldest of six sisters and four brothers. His family was incredibly tight knit and everyone had each other’s best interests in mind.

During his junior year of high school, Gatson signed up to be a reservist for the National Guard. Post graduation, Gatson experienced a change of heart and decided to enlist in the Army in 2003. Gatson wanted to follow in the footsteps of his many family members who had previously served in the United States Military. Upon enlisting in the Army, Gatson served in the 329 FA and 1-320th FA. He loved the sense of brotherhood that came with serving in the Army and wanted to be the best that he could be. Gatson received numerous awards for his years of service including but not limited to, multiple good conduct awards and eventually becoming Aocoms Team Leader of his squad on his last deployment.

On July 12th, 2010, Gatson was on deployment in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device exploded from beneath him. Gatson lost half of his left leg and sustained severe injuries to his right leg. The road to recovery was long and arduous for Gatson as he needed many surgeries and years of physical therapy.

Gatson currently lives with his mother and aunt. He is married to Ratcheal and loves spending time with his three wonderful daughters Amya, Ka’Naiya, and Khaliah and stepdaughter Khloe. Gatson is eager and excited to watch them all grow up. In addition to being a loving father, Gatson has also become the captain of the Warrior Sled Hockey Team. Being a part of the Warriors has brought great happiness to his life and he desires to continue to play for them for as long as he possibly can.
