San Francisco Police Department Rangemaster Sergeant Kevin Brugaletta was born in Petaluma, California. After his mother passed away when he was nine years old, he grew up in Petaluma alongside his brother and the two remain very close today. Throughout his life, Brugaletta participated in various sports, including soccer, baseball, basketball, wrestling, golf, softball and Australian Rules football. In 2009, he and his wife, Brittany, met through a mutual friend. They were married in 2018 and began their life together.
While in college, Brugaletta took an Administration of Justice class which was taught by a retired police officer. Inspired by him and his stories, Brugaletta decided to join the San Francisco Police Department in October of 2006. He excelled, having first served patrol, and worked his way up through Plain Clothes, Special Operations and Field Training. In 2017 he was promoted to Sergeant where he served at Special Victims Unit and Field Training until finally being selected as the department’s Rangemaster. Brugaletta loved that each day was different from the last, the camaraderie, the friendships made, and giving back to his community. One of his goals was to work in Special Operations which he achieved graciously in 2010 and continued until his injury.
On a stormy day while on duty, Brugaletta’s vehicle was struck by a falling tree breaking his neck, trapping him in the vehicle as it caught fire. He was rescued by the fire department and sustained a spinal cord injury, burns and smoke inhalation. He spent seven months in an intensive care and rehabilitation hospital out of state, during which his pregnant wife gave birth to their second daughter.
Currently, Brugaletta resides in California with his wife, Brittany and his daughters, Aila and Ada. He enjoys spending time with his friends and family, watching his girls grow, spending time with his wife and going to concerts and comedy shows. In the future, he is excited to continue to
make strides in his recovery, gain more independence, be present in his daughters lives and grow old with his wife.
