United States Marine Corps Corporal John Paul Munoz-Ramirez was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, to a family that frequently moved due to his father’s job. He spent his childhood in various states and Puerto Rico, developing a love for the outdoors and adventure with his brother and sister. In high school, Munoz-Ramirez enjoyed skateboarding and spending time with friends. He met his wife through mutual friends almost ten years ago, and they have been inseparable since.
Inspired by videos of Marines in action, Munoz-Ramirez joined the USMC on September 12, 2005. He served with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines – 1st Marine Division, and loved the camaraderie, experiences, and challenges of being a Marine.
During his deployment in Afghanistan, Munoz-Ramirez stepped on an IED and suffered severe injuries, including a left leg BK amputation, finger amputations, and a traumatic brain injury. Despite these challenges, he recovered remarkably quickly, walking again just three months later.
Munoz-Ramirez credits his parents for their unwavering support during his recovery. He now enjoys reading, collecting items, working out, cycling, and woodworking. He looks forward to moving into his new smart home, provided by Tunnel to Towers, where he can finally find stability and comfort with his family. Munoz-Ramirez’s message to others is to embrace every opportunity and find the good in life’s challenges, which define who we are.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided United States Marine Corps Corporal John Paul Munoz-Ramirez with a mortgage-free smart home through the Smart Home Program.
