Service has always been a defining thread in the life of Army Sergeant James Stahley. Raised in a family with a deep military legacy—his father serving as a Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War and his great-uncle serving in World War I—Stahley grew up understanding the meaning of duty, sacrifice, and commitment to country. Inspired by those who came before him, Stahley chose to carry that legacy forward through a lifetime of service to others.

Immediately after graduating high school, Stahley enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served as a Boatswain’s Mate, Torpedoman, and in Sonar operations. During his naval service, Stahley earned the distinction of becoming a Shellback, a time-honored naval tradition marking the crossing of the Equator—an experience that symbolizes resilience, teamwork, and the unique bonds formed at sea.

After completing four years of active-duty service, Stahley undertook a remarkable cross-country bicycle journey from San Diego, California to Cincinnati, Ohio. This journey reflected his determination, endurance, and willingness to embrace challenges—qualities that would continue to shape his path forward.

Upon returning home, Stahley pursued higher education at Northern Kentucky University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. With a strong desire to continue serving the public, he went on to serve as a police officer in Arkansas, dedicating himself to protecting and supporting the community he served.

Stahley’s commitment to helping others extended into emergency services when he completed EMT and Fire training through Great Oaks in Cincinnati. Following his training, Stahley served with the Cheviot and Delhi fire departments, where he worked in various firehouses throughout the Cincinnati area for nine years. As a firefighter and EMT, Stahley responded to emergencies, supported families during their most vulnerable moments, and demonstrated steadfast dedication to public safety.

Alongside his civilian service, Stahley remained committed to the military through the Army Reserves and later the National Guard. He was activated in 2002 and again in 2004, deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2005, Stahley was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart, recognizing his bravery and sacrifice.

In total, Army Sergeant James Stahley dedicated 24 years of service to the United States through both the Navy and Army, in addition to his years of service as a police officer, firefighter, and EMT. His life reflects an unwavering commitment to service, sacrifice, and country.
