HOME COMPLETED - NOVEMBER 2025

United States Army Major David Ziegelhofer was born and raised in Ohio, where his early years were filled with laughter, sports, and the warmth of a loving close-knit family. His father served as the Superintendent of Schools, a respected position that made the Ziegelhofer family well known throughout the community. From a young age, Ziegelhofer showed a deep passion for athletics, taking part in football, basketball, tennis, and track. Inspired by his brother’s path to West Point, David set his sights on a military career, determined to serve his country with honor.

In 2010, Ziegelhofer began his journey in the United States Army. Serving in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade at Fort Carson, his leadership and dedication quickly propelled him forward. He served as an ROTC Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, graduated from the prestigious U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, and was later assigned to the 1st Division at Fort Riley.

Ziegelhofer thrived in the military, drawn to the camaraderie, purpose, and challenge. Along the way, he earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal—testaments to his excellence and commitment.

Ziegelhofer’s greatest battle came off the field. After undergoing surgery to remove a service-connected tumor from his chest and neck, he suffered a massive stroke that left him with hemiparesis, cognitive deficits, aphasia, and memory loss. The road to recovery was steep and uncertain—but Ziegelhofer faced it with courage and determination.

With the unwavering support of his wife, Jenny, and their children—Nolan, Eddy, and Jackson—Ziegelhofer embraced the challenge. Through countless hours of speech, physical, and occupational therapy, he rebuilt his strength and spirit. Today, he continues to push forward, engaging in adaptive skiing, working out, fishing, and cherishing time with his family.

Ziegelhofer recognizes with gratitude the support from Tunnel to Towers. Free from the burden of a mortgage, and living in a smart home that meets his needs, he is empowered to focus on healing, growth, and inspiring others.

United States Army Major David Ziegelhofer’s story is not just one of service—it’s a testament to the power of resilience, love, and the human spirit. He reminds us that true strength is not measured by rank or medals, but by the courage to rise after being knocked down, and the heart to keep moving forward.
