HOME COMPLETED - OCTOBER 2025

United States Navy Fire Controlman Second Class David Henderson has worn a uniform nearly his entire life, embodying a profound commitment to service and sacrifice. Raised with what he proudly calls the “best all-American Heartland childhood,” Henderson was nurtured by his mom and stepfather in a home filled with adventure, curiosity, and love. From Boy Scouts and camping to roller skating and tinkering with computers and cars, his early years laid the foundation for a life of purpose.

Driven by a deep sense of duty, Henderson enlisted in the Navy in 1992, believing wholeheartedly that serving his country was the right thing to do. His passion for helping others led him to assignments aboard the USS California and at Navy Base Bahrain. Over the course of 11 years in uniform and 24 more as a government contractor, Henderson’s unwavering dedication spanned the First Gulf War, the Second Gulf War, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Henderson’s journey came with a heavy cost. Due to toxic exposure during his service, he developed cancer that affected 70% of his body. Yet even in the face of unimaginable adversity, he continues to fight—with courage, grace, and the steadfast support of his wife, Theresa.

Today, United States Navy Fire Controlman Second Class David Henderson channels his creativity into 3D printing, computers, and inventing, and remains a pillar of his community by sharing his story and raising awareness about the hidden wounds of war. Tunnel to Towers has reignited his hope, reminding him—and all of us—that heroes never stand alone.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided United States Navy Fire Controlman Second Class David Henderson with a mortgage-free smart home through the Smart Home Program.
