The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation has made sure the children of fallen NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia have a new home just in time for the holidays.
Earlier this month, the Foundation, partnering with Skyview on the Hudson, Halstead Real Estate and New York Daily News, announced the new home for the Familia children in a press conference. Our Chief Operating Officer, John Hodge, introduced the initiative honoring Detective Familia, before Frank Siller, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Foundation, walked up to say a few words.
This is a glorious day. In our foundation, we look forward to days like today because there is so much sadness in this world, but today is a joyous day. I stand here this morning with Genesis, Peter, and Delilah. First and foremost, I want to stop and think about the kind of life that Detective Miosotis Familia led.
Siller went on to detail Detective Familia’s impact on those around her – her family, friends and the people she served.
She led a life that was filled with meaning and purpose. She was a loving mother of three. She was a caretaker of her own mother, and a dedicated police officer who gave her life in the line of duty.
Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the ones who receive and they bless you, the givers.
Every one of us gathered here today are blessed. Genesis, Peter and Delilah, you were blessed with the gift of having the mother that you had. She will be with you always and guide you. The rest of us are blessed knowing that her love continues in a special place we’ll be announcing in a few moments here where you can live as a family.
It is the Foundation’s mission to do good – a mission brought about by the sacrifice Frank Siller’s brother, Stephen Siller, made when he was lost on September 11.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation made a promise after Miosotis and her horrific death. We promised to raise funds to make sure her sacrifice would not be forgotten, and that we would try to give her family, her children, the quality of life that she worked so hard for to provide for you. And we are here today to fulfill that promise.
