Earlier this year, as part of a True Hospitality team effort, IHG Army Hotels made the commitment to raise funds for Tunnel to Towers through activities such as bake sales, denim days and other efforts – resulting in a total of over $14,000.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation was set up in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller, who lost his life while saving others on September 11, 2001. The Foundation relies on the generosity of supporters, donors and partners to give back to our nation’s greatest heroes.
From building mortgage-free smart homes for injured veterans to paying off the remaining mortgages for surviving Gold Star families and the families first responders, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation recognizes the biggest burden in the way of a family’s grief is financial. By ensuring these families and heroes have their home forever, the Foundation hopes to give them some relief amidst the tragedy.
For the Smart Home Program, each home is designed to address the unique needs of each individual. Smart homes host a myriad of features such as automated doors and lighting, wider halls and doorways, special showers to accommodate wheelchairs, automatic door openers, cabinets, counters, and stove tops that can be raised and lowered, back-up generators, and central heating and air conditioning systems that can be controlled by tablets. These homes help our most severely injured veterans to reclaim their day-to-day independence.
For the Fallen First Responder Home Program and Gold Star Program, these families are given a forever or are given the relief that they are able to stay in their family home forever.
Now, Tunnel to Towers turns its efforts towards our frontline health care workers battling COVID-19. Please consider joining our COVID-19 Heroes Fund for just $11/mo. today.
