United States Army Staff Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: January 28, 2024
United States Army Staff Sergeant William Jerome Rivers passed away on January 28, 2024, while in the line of duty.
Rivers was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He lived in a large home with his parents, three siblings, and other relatives. He especially loved to spend time with his Grandmother growing up. As a child, Rivers enjoyed being outdoors riding bikes, running track, and hanging out with friends, as well as watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Later on, Rivers and his wife, Darlene, met through a mutual friend.
In 2011, Rivers joined the US Army to ensure a better future for his family. His goal upon joining the Army was to complete 20 years of service. He loved the idea of being a part of a group that served the United States. Throughout his honorable career, Rivers received multiple army medals and the ultimate Purple Heart. While deployed in Jordan, Rivers was a victim of a drone attack, prematurely ending his life.
Currently, Darlene and her three children reside in Georgia. In the future, she looks forward to seeing her children flourish. She is very grateful to Tunnel to Towers for lifting the financial burden of a mortgage and providing newfound stability, especially for her autistic son. Darlene would like everyone to know that Rivers loved God and his family, had a heart of gold, made the best of every situation, and always had a smile on his face.
