United States Army Command Sergeant Major • Line of Duty Death: December 5, 2021

United States Army Command Sergeant Major Steven M. Adams tragically passed away on December 5, 2021 due to service-related illnesses.

From a young age, Adams shared a deep and loving bond with his father, built on mutual respect and care. This relationship became a strong foundation for his early growth. Both of their presence brought stability and encouragement, helping shape his character and outlook during his formative years. His stepmother’s presence further enriched his life. Together, their influence created a home filled with stability and encouragement.

Adams enlisted in the Army in 1992, inspired by his father, who had served in the Air Force. Throughout his career, he made a lasting impact on his soldiers by offering both professional guidance and personal support, always prioritizing their well-being. His open-door policy was a testament to his dedication as a leader and mentor. In recognition of his service, Adams received numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

The El Paso, Texas airport became the unexpected backdrop for a life-changing moment when Adams met his future wife, Maria. As she was walking in and he was walking out, a brief crossing of paths and a shared smile sparked an instant connection. That simple encounter grew into a love story that lasted more than two decades. They went on to share 26 wonderful years of marriage, built on an unshakable bond. Maria’s most cherished memories are the times they spent together as a family, whether out on their boat or off-roading in their jeep—moments she will forever treasure.

Adams’ legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. His soldiers knew they could always rely on his guidance and support, and he was equally devoted as a loving husband and father. Beyond his family, his greatest joy came from serving alongside his fellow soldiers, leading with integrity and compassion. Today, Maria and their child honor his memory by carrying forward his commitment to education and his dedication to helping those in need, ensuring that the values he lived by continue to inspire others.

United States Army Command Sergeant Major Steven M. Adams is survived by his loving wife, Maria, and his beautiful children, Anthony, Justin, Matthew, Bryan, and Benjamin.
