United States Army Staff Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: October 10, 2011
United States Army Staff Sergeant Nathan L. Wyrick was killed in action on October 10, 2011 while deployed in Afghanistan.
Wyrick was born in California and raised in Puyallup, Washington. Throughout his childhood, he loved sports and took a particular interest in football, baseball, and track. He and his wife, Rachel, met through mutual friends on a phone call. They immediately shared a connection and later had a great first date. Six months later on September 6, 2003, the pair were married and began their beautiful life together..
Prior to his military career, Wyrick was an electrician. However, the events of September 11, 2001 sparked his desire to better serve his country. On March 16, 2006, at 28 years old, Wyrick enlisted in the US Army. He loved being a part of a team and having the ability to help others. His main goals were to support his country, have a career that fulfilled him, and to support his growing family. He was quickly promoted to Sergeant and was an exceptional leader. Prior to his premature passing, he aspired to become a Warrant Officer. In 2011, Wyrick had been deployed to Afghanistan from Fort Drum in New York with Company A, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment when he was killed in action. He left his wife and four children behind. Wyrick was posthumously promoted to Staff Sergeant.
Rachel currently resides in Washington with her two youngest sons, dog, and cats, all of whom she loves very much. In her free time, she enjoys ballet dancing, knitting, off-roading, camping with her dog, roller skating, and traveling. Additionally, she is training for the Marine Corps Marathon and is on the leadership team of a non-profit mom support group. In the future, she is excited to continue to watch her sons grow and become wonderful young men. She is also hoping to go overland camping and travel more. With the financial freedom of her mortgage being paid off, she is able to save for a trip to Germany with one of her sons. Finally, Rachel would like others to know that her husband was a spectacular human being who poured unconditional love into the world. Rachel loves and misses him. She and her children wish more than anything that their loved one could be there with them.
United States Army Staff Sergeant Nathan L. Wyrick is survived by his loving wife, Rachel, and their four sons.
