United States Marine Corps Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: October 17, 2024
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Donovan A. Holliday tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on October 17, 2024.Â
Holliday enjoyed a fulfilling childhood, marked by his passion for basketball, music, and time spent with his family. He admired his father and shared a close bond with his mother and sister. Holliday was known for his outgoing personality, his drive to push boundaries, and his commitment to caring for his grandmother and sisters. He demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for achievement, a spirit of adventure, a curious mind, and was a thrill-seeker.
Inspired by his father’s service in the Marine Corps and Army, Holliday honored that legacy by joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 2019. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met, consistently radiating positivity, warmth, and joy. His mastery of his role was exceptional, making him an indispensable member of his team. As a Special Operations Capability Specialist, Holliday ensured seamless communication throughout his deployment, a critical contribution to mission success. Holliday was promoted early to an E5 during his combat deployment to Iraq and was also nominated for a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Though he was unable to receive his medal, his wife, Secret, accepted it on his behalf. Even in the most challenging circumstances, he remained steadfast and upbeat, inspiring those around him with his resilience, dedication, and unwavering spirit.
Holliday met Secret in high school. Their paths crossed at the gym, and from that moment, they became inseparable. Secret immediately recognized the significant influence Holliday would have on her life. She found peace, comfort, and safety with him, always able to be her true self. Secret will forever cherish the memory of the remarkable man he was, acknowledging his instrumental role in shaping the woman she is today. Their shared journey and the time they spent together will always hold a special place in her heart.
Secret cherishes many memories with Holliday, each holding a special place in her heart. Among her favorites was their junior prom nearly seven years ago, where they shared a wonderful night together. She also fondly remembers the time they spent playing It Takes Two. Though not especially skilled at video games, Secret gave it a try, and it took them quite some time to complete—mostly because she struggled with the jumping mechanics. Holliday was endlessly patient, always waiting for her to finish her part so they could continue together. It was a simple memory, but one filled with laughter and connection. Perhaps the most profound memory was the arrival of their daughter and watching Holliday embrace fatherhood with love and excitement. He was a devoted, hands-on dad who adored every moment with their little girl.
Holliday’s legacy can be summed up in his unwavering belief to never give up and always strive to be the best version of yourself. He lived by the values of perseverance, positivity, and purpose—showing up and doing what needed to be done, no matter the circumstances. He often reminded Secret of these lessons, encouraging her and those around him to chase their goals, big or small, and to find joy in life’s beauty rather than dwelling on its challenges. Holliday was so much more than his accident—he lived a full, remarkable life filled with love, and unwavering support for those he cared about. He was the glue that held everything together, a beacon of light whose warmth and authenticity touched everyone he met. Intelligent, caring, witty, and unapologetically himself, Holliday had a unique zest for life. He loved his waves, his favorite body oils and candles, grilling, fashion, and riding his motorcycle. He accomplished everything he set his mind to and more. Today, his spirit continues to inspire those who knew him—through their kindness, determination, hard work, and the simple act of asking, what would Donovan do?
