United States Army Sergeant • Line of Duty Death: August 27, 2008

United States Army Sergeant David Keith Cooper passed away on August 27, 2008 while on deployment in Baghdad, Iraq.

Cooper was born in Corbin, Kentucky and raised in Williamsburg, Kentucky in a very tight knit family. Throughout his childhood, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, riding ATVs, and spending time with his friends. Additionally, he loved to play football, excelling at the sport through high school. After one of his games, Cooper met his future wife, Amanda, through mutual friends.

With a desire to make a difference and serve his country, Cooper decided to enlist in the US military on May 22, 2004. He loved the bond he developed with his fellow soldiers and being a part of something bigger than himself. Cooper also dedicated his life to Christ while serving his country. In 2008, while on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq, Cooper passed away from wounds sustained during a small arms fire.

Cooper and Amanda share a child, Hayden, who has similar interests as his father. Together, Amanda and Hayden enjoy watching sports and are active in their community. In the future, Amanda is excited to receive a home to call their own where she can watch her son continue to grow. The support from Tunnel to Towers provides Amanda with security, which she is eternally grateful for. Finally, she would like others to know that Cooper was a true hero–a strong and noble man who lit up a room, kept everyone around him smiling and always put his loved ones before himself.

United States Army Sergeant David Keith Cooper is survived by his wife, Amanda, and son, Hayden.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided the Cooper family with a mortgage-free home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
