United States Air Force Senior Airman • Line of Duty Death: January 3, 2010

United States Air Force Senior Airman Bradley Randall Smith lost his life on January 3, 2010, while providing aid to the wounded and fallen and calling for medical evacuations in Afghanistan.

Smith was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Troy, Illinois. He was the youngest of two boys and was raised in a southern household that prioritized God, family and community. His parents, Paula and Gary, raised Smith and his brother, Ryan, with integrity and kindness. He was a very social child and involved in many activities, including church youth group and many sports. Smith loved going on adventures with his buddies in the woods and cornfields or driving on the backroads. He was known for his self-satisfied grin on his face.

September 11, 2001 was the catalyst that inspired Smith to join the military. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he enlisted in the Air Force in December 2006 as a pararescueman, driven by a desire to support his brothers on the battlefield. Later on, he cross-trained into the Tactical Air Control Party and deeply valued the sense of brotherhood the military offered, taking pride in being part of a mission greater than himself. Passionate about protecting those in need, Smith felt a profound calling to serve and defend. His determination to excel was unmatched. Smith consistently aimed to be the best in every course he took. He actively pursued elite training opportunities, including Air Assault, Pathfinder, and Jump School out of Ft. Bragg, where he always stood out at the top of his class.

Smith met his wife, Tiffany, while they were both serving in the military. From the beginning, she saw in him a man with a heart of gold—someone who poured his entire being into everything he did. His love for her and their daughter was fierce, unwavering, and unconditional, and through him, Tiffany came to understand the true meaning of family. Every Sunday without fail, he called his mother, and his playful banter with his father was a constant source of joy. Smith’s deep love and steadfast commitment to his family were gifts that Tiffany will always carry in her heart.

Tiffany currently resides in Idaho, where she balances the busy life of a mom, often found cheering on her children at their sports games. She is an active member of her mountain community and runs a community-supported agriculture business, providing organic produce to local residents. In addition to her work, Tiffany enjoys honing her gardening skills and raising livestock. Looking ahead, she dreams of opening a small farmers’ market and pumpkin patch, and eventually a bed and breakfast on her property. Tiffany is deeply grateful for the support of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation—the payoff of her mortgage has given her not just the means to survive, but the freedom to thrive. She envisions her children growing up and raising families of their own on the land, and thanks to the foundation, that vision is becoming a reality.

United States Air Force Senior Airman Bradley Randall Smith is survived by his loving wife, Tiffany, their beautiful daughter, his wonderful parents, Paula and Gary, and his brother, Ryan, and his wife, Shawna.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided the Smith family with a mortgage-free home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
