United States Army Captain • Line of Duty Death: July 30, 2023
United States Army Captain Alan Kurre Elliott tragically lost his life on July 30, 2023. He was struck by a hit-and-run driver while on a training run for an upcoming tryout with a Special Mission Unit.
Elliott was born in Lilburn, Georgia, and spent his formative years across Georgia, Kentucky, and Florida. From an early age, he was full of energy and joy, always happiest when playing outside, staying active in sports, or spending time with family and friends. He possessed a keen competitive spirit matched by his gift for connecting with others. He also cherished quiet moments with a good book. Throughout his life, Elliott was embraced by the unwavering love and encouragement of his family, both immediate and extended.
Upon graduating high school, Elliott enlisted in the Navy, driven by his love for the ocean and his aspiration to become a Navy SEAL. From 2005 to 2009, he served with pride before continuing his education through the ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. It was there he chose to pursue a career in the Army, believing it offered a greater opportunity to make a lasting impact. Commissioning in 2015, he went on to complete Air Assault, Airborne, and Ranger schools, earning his Ranger Tab. Over the course of more than 12 years of active service, Elliott’s dedication never wavered. At the time of his passing in July 2023, he was in training for a Special Missions Unit selection, driven by his deep conviction that he was meant to do more and make a greater difference.
Elliott met his future wife, Stephanie, while they were both attending the University of Kentucky, serving as teaching assistants for the Kinesiology Department—a program that Stephanie holds dear to this day. She remembers him as truly exceptional, someone who brought joy and positivity to every room he entered. Known for his selflessness, Elliott often went out of his way to help others, at times giving his last dollar or even the clothes off his back, acts Stephanie personally witnessed. He combined intelligence, wit, athleticism, and courage with a remarkable ability to make everyone feel included. An outstanding leader, he consistently prioritized the growth and success of his soldiers above his own. Above all, Elliott was a devoted and loving husband and father, taking immense pride in his family and cherishing every moment with them.
Stephanie resides in Ohio with her three children, Everett, Ray, and Isla. In honor of Elliot, they continue to embark on “Alan Adventures,” creating cherished memories together that keep his spirit alive. Stephanie also organizes an annual 5k/10k race in Elliott’s honor to raise funds for a student award established in his name at the University of Kentucky. She actively volunteers for her children’s schools and activities and is involved with Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop on Fort Carson, a non-profit that provides new, unopened gifts to children of Army service members experiencing financial hardship in the Colorado Springs area. Prior to her relocation, she served as Applications Chair and 2nd Vice President, and she now holds the role of Honorary Advisor.
United States Army Captain Alan Kurre Elliott is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie, and their beautiful children, Everett, Ray, and Isla.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided the Elliott family with a mortgage-free home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
