New York City Fire Department, New York • Line of Duty Death: December 16, 2022
On December 16, 2022, FDNY Firefighter William Patrick Moon passed away from injuries he sustained a few days prior when he fell 20 feet inside his firehouse during a routine drill.
Moon joined the FDNY in May of 2002 and served for 20 years with Ladder Company 133 in Queens before transitioning in early 2022 to Rescue Company 2, located in Brooklyn. During his time with Rescue Company 2, Moon worked as a member of the fire department’s elite special operations rescue company. Along with working for the FDNY, Moon was a volunteer firefighter in his hometown with the Islip Volunteer Fire Department where he took on the role of Chief in 2017.
“Billy is a dedicated firefighter who we will always remember as an important member of the New York City Fire Department. His legacy will live on forever.” – FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens. Moon’s family opted to honor his wishes and donate his organs so Moon could continue saving lives even after his death.
FDNY Firefighter William Patrick Moon II is survived by his wife, Kristina, and their two children, Brianne and Colin.
