Fire Lieutenant Stephen Silvestrich of the San Francisco Fire Department in California, passed away when he suffered a sudden heart attack following his tour of duty on April 16, 2024. He was 51 years old and had served with the SFFD since August 26, 2002.
Silvestrich was raised in Occidental, California. He was the eldest of three children born to Edward and Gail Silvestrich. He attended El Molino High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. He earned his Associates Degree in Art and later his paramedic license. He joined the volunteer fire department, inspired to be a first responder like his father and other close relatives. He had a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others while serving his community. He joined the SFFD in 2002 as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 2021. He made a lasting impact with his hard-working mentality. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand and was a good listener. He was known for his exceptional bravery and was viewed as the cornerstone of the department. He loved the camaraderie among his peers and had a great sense of humor. He was humble, patient, strong, and a role model for all.
Silvestrich met his future wife, Kristen, while they worked together at the local pizza shop when they were teenagers. They shared a sense of humor and close friendship. They began dating in their early twenties, got married, and went on to have four children together: Ethan, Ella, Aidan and Abigail. Silvestrich was the perfect partner in raising their family, making memories with happy family trips and sharing the joy and pride of his children’s accomplishments. His family was at the heart of everything he did.
Fire Lieutenant Stephen Silvestrich of the San Francisco Fire Department is survived by his loving wife, Kristen, his children, Ethan, Ella, Aidan and Abigail, his mother, Gail, and many other cherished family members.
