Forrest City Federal Prison, Arkansas • Line of Duty Death: August 21, 2020
Corrections Officer Shannon Dewayne Stovall died on August 21, 2020 from complications as a result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Stovall was born in Forrest City, Arkansas and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin alongside his cousins, which he enjoyed the most. His mother worked full-time while raising four boys, so things were pretty simple for Stovall and his siblings. Other than school, he loved to play basketball with his cousins and friends. One day, while out and about, he and his future wife, Crystal, met while he was in town visiting his family.
Stovall worked for a juvenile system for many years before deciding to take the next step to becoming a Corrections Officer at the Federal Prison in Forrest City, Arkansas on December 19, 2019. He loved everything about his job, from interacting with the inmates to collaborating with his colleagues. Everyone enjoyed being around Officer Stovall’s kind and charismatic personality. Stovall had dreams of one day becoming an interventionist.
Currently, Crystal enjoys spending time with her son and the sports he plays. She is excited to continue to watch her children grow and see what the future holds for them. Receiving support from Tunnel to Towers has allowed Crystal and her children to remain in the home that she and Stovall chose as their forever home just four months before his passing and she is eternally grateful for the opportunity. She would like others to know that despite her family’s circumstances, God is still good. Stovall meant the world to those around him and they miss him every second of every day.
Corrections Officer Shannon Dewayne Stovall is survived by his loving wife, Crystal, and their two beautiful children.
