Baton Rouge Police Department, Louisiana • Line of Duty Death: February 1, 2019
Cpl. Shane Totty died in the line of duty on February 1, 2019, after he was hit while escorting a funeral procession.
Cpl. Totty survived being shot in the line of duty in February 2018. Totty made a full recovery and transferred to the motors division months before he was killed.
Shane is survived by his wife Catherine Hope and daughter Peyton who was only a year old when her father died.
“My husband was mine and our daughter’s rock. While nothing and no one can bring him back, and the days are not always easy to get through, the Tunnel to Towers home program allows us the privilege to breathe a little easier. This foundation has taken one big stress away as we continue to learn and navigate through this new life without our person, in our home. This is a blessing, and no words can ever express our gratitude,” said Catherine.
Cpl. Totty joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in June 2014, he was 31 years old.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family’s mortgage in July 2021 in honor of Independence Day.
