Cobb County Police Department, Georgia • Line of Duty Death: September 8, 2022

On September 8, 2022, Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputy Marshall Samual Ervin Jr. was shot and killed while attempting to serve a felony theft warrant. The incident also took the life of fellow Deputy Jonathan Randall Koleski.

Ervin was a ten-year veteran of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, having joined the force in 2012. He had married his high school sweetheart, Jodi, and created a life for himself and his family in Dallas, Georgia. He enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with his wife and daughters. Ervin is remembered as a man of integrity, and a loving husband and father.

His wife, Jodi, currently lives in Georgia with her two kids, Mayleigh and Kourtlee. She spends her time traveling, spending time with her family, and volunteering with their church. She looks forward to seeing her kids excel at sports and watching them grow up. The support from Tunnel to Towers has allowed her family to live and continue the lifestyle Ervin worked hard to create for them.

One thing Jodi wants people to know about Ervin was that “he was more than ‘just a cop’ and so much more than the way he died. He was my high school sweetheart. He was superdad. He loved kids. He laughed all the time. He was laid back. He was a real person, not just another story on the news.”

Deputy Sheriff Marshall Samual Ervin Jr. is survived by his wife, Jodi, and daughters, Mayleigh and Kourtlee.
