Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Lieutenant Mario John Moya passed away on August 17, 2021 due to contracting COVID-19 while in the line of duty.
Moya was born in Los Angeles, California. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served during Desert Storm on the USS Forrestal. In 1993, he and his wife, Christina, got married before having three children, Mario J. Moya III, Isabella, and Roberto. Together, the Moya family loved to play games, watch movies, and vacation in Disney World. Moya also loved to build and fly drones.
As a child, Moya had a dream of becoming a firefighter. In March of 2004, he achieved that dream and proudly served with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Station 42, which was his very own community. Having had a passion for his job, he continued his education and became a certified paramedic and earned his associates degree in fire science. Eventually, he became lieutenant of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Station 42. Moya adored everything about his career and serving his community. He was even a member of the JFRD Peer Support Team where he assisted families in their times of need. Additionally, Moya worked as part of the Federal National Disaster Medical System on a Disaster Medical Assistance Team, DMAT FL-4.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Lieutenant Mario John Moya is survived by his wife, Christina, his children, Mario, Isabella, and Roberto, his mother, Juanita, his sisters, Marina and April, and his brother, Hymien.
