Fountain Police Department, Colorado ● Line of Duty Death: February 2, 2023

On February 2, 2023, K9 Officer Julian Becerra suffered a fall from an overpass during a foot pursuit of carjacking suspects, and passed shortly thereafter on February 11, 2023.

Becerra was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico until the age of 10, when his family immigrated to Oklahoma. The oldest of three siblings, Becerra adopted his impeccable work ethic and moral code from his parents, who worked hard to give their children as many opportunities as possible.

Becerra enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2006, shortly after graduating high school, with the desire to serve his country and take advantage of the opportunities a career in the military would offer him. Becerra served with the United States Air force until 2014, when he was hired as a Detention Specialist for El Paso County Jail, where he eventually met his wife, Katie, and then became a Deputy in 2016. Becerra was hired with the Fountain Police department, where he was selected for the K9 program in 2020, a goal he had set out to accomplish since the beginning of his career. As a K9 Officer, Becerra was actively working on revamping the K9 program.

K9 Officer Julian Becerra is survived by his wife, Katie, and children, Isabella and Mateo. Becerra was also an organ donor and was able to donate his heart, kidneys and liver after passing, continuing to impact the lives of others even after his death.
