Trumann Police Department, Arizona • Line of Duty Death: April 13, 2011

On April 13th, 2011 Patrolman Jonathan Schmidt was fatally shot numerous times while conducting a traffic stop.

Schmidt was born and raised in a small town in Arkansas where he spent a lot of his time out in the country fishing and hunting with his brother and father. Prior to his career in the law enforcement realm, Schmidt worked at a steel mill for about four years in order to provide for his family. One day in 2007 everything changed when Schmidt told his wife, Andrea, that he had been praying and felt like he needed to leave the steel mill to start a career in law enforcement. He wanted to work in his hometown to give back to the residents and to make his town safe

not only for his family but for all families.

Patrolman Schmidt joined the Trumann Police Department in April of 2007 and served for four years where he earned awards including but not limited to, Officer of the Year in 2008 and he was even named the 2010 Law Enforcement Hero of Arkansas by the Arkansas Red Cross for performing CPR and saving the life of a 1 year old boy in January of 2010.

Patrolman Jonathan Schmidt is survived by his wife, Andrea, and his three children, Chace, Haleigh, and Keaton.
