Frederick Police Department, Maryland • Line of Duty Death: December 28, 2021
Frederick Police Department Police Officer Gregory Santangelo passed away on December 28, 2021 due to contracting COVID-19 while in the line of duty.
Santangelo was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and raised in Middletown, Maryland. He grew up in a large, boisterous family with two siblings and a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was very active as a child, being involved in Boy Scouts. Later on, he and his wife, Sarah, crossed paths while attending Hood College and shared an undeniable connection.
Having always been passionate about his country, law enforcement, and helping and protecting others, Santangelo began his law enforcement career in 2000. He loved everything about his job, however, he adored teaching new officers above all. Throughout his 21-year-long career, Santangelo became a Sniper on the Special Services Team, a Field Training Officer, and an instructor at the academy where he won an award for instructor of the year.
Sarah would like to thank Santangelo’s sister, Karen, and father, Michael, for being there to support her following her tremendous loss. Karen is currently an active member in COPS. Sarah is grateful to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for providing her with the stability of a mortgage-free home. The knowledge that their home will be theirs forever has helped herself and her children feel secure. Lastly, Sarah would like others to know that Santangelo lived a life of service, loyalty, and steadfast moral conviction.
Frederick Police Department Police Officer Gregory Santangelo is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, his children, his sister, Karen, and his father, Michael.
