North Myrtle Beach Police Department, South Carolina ● Line of Duty Death: January 1, 2021

North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Sgt. Gordon William Best died in the line of duty on January 1, 2021, while responding to a ‘shots fired’ call. Best lost control of his vehicle on the wet roads en route to the crime scene and struck a utility pole.

Best, 30, joined the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department on October 21, 2013, and was promoted to Sergeant on February 17, 2019.

Best is survived by his parents, his wife, Taylor, and two young children.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the Best family’s home as part of its 2021 Season of Hope initiative.
