Deputy First Class Glenn Raymond Hilliard passed away on June 12, 2022, after sustaining fatal gunshot wounds while attempting to apprehend a fugitive who was wanted on multiple felony warrants in several jurisdictions.

Hilliard was born in Richmond, VA and raised in Newark, NJ after being adopted at the age of 4 years old. As a child, Hilliard was fascinated by things related to law enforcement. When he was young, his hobbies included swimming and baseball. Hilliard met Tashica in 2005 when they began chatting on an online gaming site. When they met in person at the mall, Hilliard met Tashica’s immediate family at the same time. They dated for a short period of time and knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They were married in the summer of 2006. When Tashica met Hilliard, she knew that his passion for his law enforcement career would come before anything.

Hilliard applied to be a seasonal police officer in Ocean City, Maryland, while in his freshman year of college, where he grew certain that law enforcement would be his career choice. At the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, he changed his major from computer science to a Bachelor’s program in criminal justice. After making connections with local police officers while working as student security, Hilliard was offered a position at the local police station, which he gladly accepted. Hilliard worked at different local agencies before settling in at Wicomico County Sheriff’s office, where he was sworn in as a deputy in 2012. Throughout his career, he earned many accolades and achievements including, but not limited to, Detective, Cellebrite Operator and Physical Analyst, Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Pilot, Crisfield Police Officer and Berlin Police Officer. He was very proud of his long list of accomplishments, with advancing to the SWAT team being at the top. On June 12, 2022, Hilliard responded to a call of an active fugitive warrant who may be armed. When Hilliard arrived on scene and began pursuing the suspect, a foot chase ensued and Hilliard drew his taser to subdue the fugitive. Moments later, he was fatally shot by the suspect.

Tashica currently lives in Maryland at the family home they made for their children, De’Aijah, Jersi and Trenton. Tashica was in a nursing program when her husband passed away, and managed to complete and receive her registered nursing license. She enjoys reading and uses it as an escape from thoughts of her circumstances. Within her community, Tashica has attended and spoken at multiple law enforcement events as she enjoys sharing her husband’s heroic story. She doesn’t know what the future will hold, but she hopes it involves helping others in her situation heal as she heals. Tashica says that the support from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has taken a huge burden off of her and her family by paying off their mortgage. Hilliard was the sole provider of the family while Tashica was in nursing school, and without the Foundation she believes they may have lost their family home. Tashica would like people to know that her husband loved protecting his community and he passed away doing what he loved to do.

Deputy First Class Glenn Raymond Hilliard leaves behind his wife, Tashica, and his three children, De’Aijah, Jersi, and Trenton.
