Riverside County Sheriff’s Officer, California ● Line of Duty Death: January 13, 2023
On January 13th, 2023, Deputy Darnell Calhoun of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was fatally shot while responding to an “unknown trouble” call.
Deputy Calhoun was born in Pomona, California and grew up in Murrieta, California surrounded by family. As a child, Calhoun was homeschooled and was very involved in organized sports such as football, karate, bowling, and track, where he met his future wife, Vanessa.
Calhoun always felt drawn to law enforcement because he wanted to protect those in his community. Calhoun joined the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in August of 2019, where he was afforded the opportunity to protect and serve his community, and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow officers. Calhoun was especially proud of his role in protecting children in his community and providing them with safety and security.
Deputy Calhoun dedicated his life to his faith, his family, and service to his community.
Deputy Darnell Calhoun is survived by his mother Renee, father Lonnie, sister Darnice, brother Darson, his wife, Vanessa, and three sons, Russell, Troy, and Malcolm, who was born on March 30th, 2023.
