Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio • Line of Duty Death: December 15, 2022
Deputy Sheriff Daniel J. Kin passed away on December 15, 2022, in a vehicle accident while transporting a prisoner.
Kin was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and grew up in McCutchenville, Ohio alongside his sisters. Often, Kin helped his father farm and raise cattle. His family was very close-knit and reliant on each other. As a child, Kin was interested in anything outdoors, including farming with his dad and hunting with friends. Kin met his wife, Erin, though his sister. Between the two soulmates, there was never a dull moment.
Though his original plan was to join the military, Kin instead decided to begin a career in law enforcement in order to stay close to family and help out on the farm. His goal when he joined was to help others, and that’s what he found he loved most about his job as a law enforcement officer. In 2021, he became the Corrections Officer of the year at Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. He was also a part of the SRT squad at Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
Currently, Erin lives in Ohio with her children. The knowledge that she and her children will always have a safe place to call home provides her with hope and excitement for what the future holds. Erin would like to acknowledge Kin’s sister, Stephanie, who shared an incredibly close relationship with her brother, and continues to be a rock for their family, helping out wherever and whenever she can. The support from Tunnel to Towers has ensured that Erin and the children can remain in her and her husband’s dream home, which they had just bought a year before he passed. Erin would like others to know that her husband was an amazing person and an even more amazing father. He had a contagious smile and was a bright light to all who knew him.
Deputy Sheriff Daniel J. Kin is survived by his wife, Erin, and two children, Arlo and Jaxon.
