City of Burnet Fire Department, Texas • Line of Duty Death: September 18, 2015

Firefighter Daniel E. Hampton passed away on September 18, 2015, in the line of duty while transporting a patient to the hospital.

Hampton was born in Hawthorne, Nevada, and was raised, alongside his older sister, Kelly, in several different states due to their father’s military career in the United States Air Force. When Hampton was fourteen, the family settled in Texas, where Hampton first discovered his passion for the fire service. Because their home was in close proximity to the fire station, Hampton would jump the fence to race to the station whenever he heard a call come in. As soon as he was old enough, he became a volunteer firefighter and medic. In May 2009, while working for Alliance Ambulance, he met his future wife, Lisa, with whom he shared an immediate connection. Lisa had two sons from previous relationships, Brendon and Andy, whom Hampton loved as his own. On October 15, 2011, Hampton and Lisa were married, and they had two more children, Hunter and Madison.

After his high school graduation, Hampton joined the United States Army and became a combat medic. During his time of service, Hampton was deployed to Iraq and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he continued to be a volunteer firefighter, joining departments that were close to where he was stationed. Hampton finished his Army career with the rank of Sergeant, and received many recognitions throughout his years of service. He settled outside of Houston, Texas and continued his pursuit to become a full-time firefighter. In 2013, the City of Burnet Fire Department offered Hampton a position as a part-time firefighter, and in June of 2015, Hampton took on a second part-time position with the Brady Fire Department. On September 18, 2015, the Brady Fire Department offered Hampton a full-time position, fulfilling his lifetime goal. That day, after leaving Brady Fire Department, Hampton headed to his City of Burnet Fire Department shift. At 9:05 pm that evening, Hampton was transporting a patient when the ambulance crashed into an 18-wheeler. Hampton passed away instantly, and the patient and his partner were both seriously injured.

Lisa and her family currently reside in Texas. After her husband passed away, Lisa went back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree and receive her Texas Teaching Certification. She now teaches in the same district her children attend. By receiving support from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Lisa has been relieved of the burden and stress of living paycheck to paycheck. Finally, Lisa would like others to know that her husband would do anything for anyone and be led by service to others no matter the circumstances.
