Suffolk County Police Department, New York • Line of Duty Death: January 30, 2013

Suffolk County Police Department Police Officer Craig Capolino of New York passed away on January 30, 2013 after a courageous battle with T Cell Lymphoma. As a 9/11 first responder, he developed cancer as a result of his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. He was a United States Army veteran who had served in the Infantry.

Capolino grew up in East Meadow, New York, with his mother and brother. His father lived out east and they were all very close. His dream since age four was to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a police officer in the NYPD. He attained the rank of Detective on the Narcotics squad. He then joined the Suffolk County Police Department on Long Island, New York, and served there for 19 years. He always wanted to help others and be a hero. He was well respected by his fellow officers. He received the Cop of the Month award many times.

Capolino met his wife, Lisa, on a night out and it was love at first sight. They married and had three children together, Alexandria, Jessica and Ava. His family was the greatest joy in his life. From getting them ready for dance competition or giving them pedicures, he loved spending time with them and seeing them happy. He was sweet, caring, courageous and strong. He was hard working and dedicated.

Suffolk County Police Department Police Officer Craig Capolino is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, his daughters, Alexandria, Jessica and Ava, and many other cherished family members and friends.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Capolino family home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
