Glen Ridge Police Department, New Jersey • Line of Duty Death: May 11, 2020

Glen Ridge Police Department Sergeant Charles “Rob” Roberts III died of complications from COVID-19, which he contracted in the line of duty. He was born on September 29, 1974 and died on May 11, 2020.

Roberts served his community for 20 years with the Glen Ridge Police Department. Roberts had a way of making everyone feel listened to and cared about, from people he met once to people he would see every day while on bike patrol, teaching D.A.R.E. classes and coaching his kids in soccer.

Being a community police officer had been Robert’s dream since he was a boy.

Promoted to sergeant posthumously, Robert spent his career interacting with and caring for those in his tight-knit borough always on foot, bike or waving from his patrol car.

Glen Ridge Police Department Sergeant Charles “Rob” Roberts III leaves behind his wife, Alice, his daughters, Shea and Natalie, and his son, Gavin. He would always say, “It’s not goodbye. It’s see you later.”

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided the Roberts family with a mortgage-free home through the Fallen First Responder Home Program.
