Alexandria Fire Department Deputy Chief of EMS Brian R. Hricik passed away on February 23, 2023 after a three month long battle with cancer.

Deputy Chief Hricik was born in Alexandria, Virginia, and was raised in Northern Virginia. Growing up, he was surrounded by a large family network of many aunts, uncles, and cousins. From an early age, Deputy Chief Hricik loved anything to do with firetrucks and ambulances, never missing an opportunity to watch the show Emergency on television. On Deputy Chief Hricik’s 25th birthday, he met the woman who would become his wife, Cindy. The pair shared an instant connection and were later married.

Deputy Chief Hricik loved to serve others which ultimately led him to become a first responder. He became involved with the Buckhall Volunteer Fire Department at a young age, fueling his passion for serving his community. In April of 1997, he was hired by the City of Alexandria as a paramedic. He was promoted in 2002 to field supervisor and again in 2007 to EMS Operations manager. In 2008, Deputy Chief Hricik was selected as the Acting Deputy Chief of EMS and promoted to the position of Deputy Chief in 2009. Furthermore, Deputy Chief Hricik received a gubernatorial appointment to serve on the State EMS Advisory Board, which he served from 2010 to 2013. In 2015, he decided to take the FF1/FFII course which he completed with dual certification. In 2022, Deputy Chief Hricik was presented with the Northern Virginia EMS Council regional award for Outstanding EMS Leadership for continuing to move the EMS Community forward while advocating for its providers. Deputy Chief Hricik was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in November of 2022, which led to his premature passing in 2023.

Cindy currently lives in Virginia with her three daughters. She enjoys watching as her daughters pursue their dreams. Cindy is also looking forward to involving herself in her local church and teaching Sunday School to children. Because of the support from Tunnel to Towers, she can provide for her children with the same level of opportunities they had before their father’s- passing.

Alexandria Fire Department Deputy Chief of EMS Brian R. Hricik is survived by his wife, Cindy, and his three daughters, Madison, Kaitlyn, and Anna.
