On September 20, 2022, New York City Police Officer Brian J. Rutherford of Transit Bureau passed away due to a 9/11-related illness.

During his 25 years of service, Rutherford received various medals of recognition, including one medal of Meritorious Police Duty and three medals of Excellence Police Duty.

Rutherford was very active, generous, loving, and loyal to not only his NYPD family, but to his wife and three children. He loved being an active mentor and coach in his childrens’ and nephews’ sports teams, including basketball and flag football. Rutherford’s wife loves seeing the lasting impact that he had on his children as they continue to grow.
