Vanderbaugh County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana • Line of Duty Death: March 3, 2023

On March 2, 2023, Vanderbaugh County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Asson Anthony Hacker became ill during training and later passed away at the hospital.

Hacker was born and raised in Queens, New York for ten years before moving to Bedford, Indiana. While he did not have much growing up, he was supported by his six siblings and other families in his community. In Hacker’s free time, he loved to spend time with his friends and play basketball. After high school, he enrolled in Olney Central College in Illinois, where he met his future wife, Kourtney.

To provide a better life for his family and make a difference in his community, Hacker joined the Vanderbaugh Sheriff’s Department in December of 2022. He excelled academically and had some of the highest scores in his class. His pride in his department and ability to help others was what he loved most about being a first responder. Hacker’s goals when joining were to learn everything he could and make his sons proud. After a training session, Hacker fell ill and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his illness.

Kourtney currently lives in Indiana with her three sons, Kendrick, Kyrie, and Kayden. She enjoys spending time with her children and hopes to see them grow into men who will make their dad proud. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation helped ease the stress of her family’s financial situation in the form of a mortgage-free home. They are now able to remain in the house they know as their home.

Vanderbaugh County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Asson Anthony Hacker is survived by his loving wife, Kourtney, and his beautiful children, Kendrick, Kyrie, and Kayden.
