Connecticut State Police, Connecticut • Line of Duty Death: May 30, 2024
On May 30, 2024, Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier was struck and killed by a truck while conducting a traffic stop on the highway. He pulled over a vehicle on the right shoulder. While speaking to the driver, a truck crossed into the shoulder, sideswiped his cruiser, and struck him. His K9, Roso, was in the cruiser when it was struck but was not injured. Pelletier had served with the Connecticut State Police for nine years, assigned to Troop H in Hartford.
Pelletier was born in New Britain, Connecticut, the youngest of three siblings, born to Michael and Dianne Pelletier. He was raised in a loving and supportive household, which included an older sister and older brother. He loved all things outdoors and enjoyed football, baseball, waterskiing, and cross-country skiing. The family spent many happy vacations at their summer home in Fort Kent. He graduated from Southington High School and Central Connecticut State University.
Pelletier Joined the Connecticut Department of Correction in 2013 and worked as a Correction Officer at the Hartford Correction Center. In 2015, he entered the 125th Training Troop as a State Police Trainee. He graduated from the State Police Academy in December of 2015. From 2018-2021, he was assigned to the Hartford FBI Task Force. In 2021, he graduated from the Police K9 Academy with K9 partner, Roso, and they went on to become certified as a Firearms Detection Team. Pelletier was also assigned to the Tactical Team as a canine handler. He loved the comradery of being a State Trooper. He was known as a true professional who always had a smile on his face, even in the most tense and uncomfortable situations. He always looked out for his fellow troopers and local law enforcement. He was a good friend to all, with a positive outlook and hard-working attitude.
Pelletier met his future wife, Dominique, as friends in high school. They went their separate ways but fate brought them together 10 years later when they crossed paths. She worked for the TSA at the local airport and he was assigned to patrol there. One night when they were working together they saw each other, had coffee together, then dated, and became inseparable. They married and had two children, Troy and Zachery. Pelletier was an amazing husband and father, and his life revolved around their happiness. He never wanted to miss a moment with his family. His children will grow up knowing what an amazing man their Dad was.
Connecticut State Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier is survived by his loving wife, Dominique, his sons, Troy and Zachary, his parents, Mike and Dianne, his brother, Michael, his sister, Christine, his grandmother, Catherine Pelletier, and many other loving family members and friends.
