BETHEL – When Brendan Ryan took off from Bethel High School for a 5K Sunday morning, he wasn’t in shorts and a T-shirt, but his firefighter gear and helmet. The assistant chief for the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department was one of about 15 firefighters and police officers who ran in their gear for the race to honor firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on 9/11. With his heavy helmet and constricting jacket, Ryan said the race was hot.”It’s a little like being a baked potato,” he said. But it was worth it, he added. “It was a great event, a great cause and to be here with my department was awesome,” he said.
