United States Army Specialist • Line of Duty Death: January 24, 2023

United States Army Specialist Louis Anthony Vazquez passed away on January 24, 2023 after his battle with service-related cancer.

Vazquez was born and raised in Long Island, New York along with his older sister, Heather. He had a great childhood, consisting of family barbecues and spending a lot of time with his friends. He adored spending quality time with his family and friends, which he continued into adulthood. Additionally, he loved building things, sitting around the fire pit, listening to music, and do-it-yourself projects. Vazquez and his wife, Danielle, met at her job and have been inseparable since. The pair were later married and began their beautiful life together.

Motivated by a desire to be part of something bigger than himself as well as to make his family proud, Vazquez enlisted in the US Army in April of 2009. He loved the brotherhood and cherished the relationships he made. Vazquez was deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division in 2010. Throughout his honorable career, he was awarded with the Afghanistan Campaign medal with a campaign star, an Army Commendation Medal, was selected for Sniper School, completed the Warrior Leader Course, and obtained an Air Assault Badge among other medals and badges. While deployed, Vazquez was exposed to toxic burn pits, which later caused him to develop Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He fought hard, however, he ultimately succumbed to the illness in January of 2023.

Danielle currently resides in New York with her daughter, Mila, with whom she enjoys spending quality time. She also likes working on home projects that she and her husband began together, exercising, reading, and spending time with family and friends. In the future, Danielle is excited
to continue to create memories in her home with Mila and keep Vazquez’s memory alive. She is eternally grateful to Tunnel to Towers for allowing her to remain in the home where she and her husband chose to raise their daughter. Finally, Danielle would like others to know how proud her husband was to serve his country. His face lit up each time he told a story about his service. He had the best, most contagious energy and laugh and was an amazing father, husband, brother, son, and friend.

United States Army Specialist Louis Anthony Vazquez is survived by his loving wife, Danielle, his beautiful daughter, Mila, his parents, his sister and his in-laws.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage of the Vazquez family home through the Gold Star Family Home Program.
