FDNY Firefighter Robert E. Welsh III passed away on August 18, 2023 as a result of a 9/11-related illness.

Welsh was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and continued his education at the College of Staten Island and SUNY Empire State College. While there, he met his wife, Jennifer. The pair eventually married and began their beautiful life together.

Prior to his career as a firefighter, Welsh served as a police officer with the NYPD for nearly five years. In October of 2001, he was appointed as a firefighter with the FDNY and was assigned to Engine 207. He proudly served New York City for nearly 17 years before retiring in March of 2018. He also owned and operated a power washing company and a handyman company, and was a member of Local 780 Cement Mason Union. Additionally, Welsh was very involved in his children’s sports, having coached baseball, football, and volunteered with his daughter’s swim team. As a result of his honorable service as a first-responder during the rescue and recovery efforts following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Welsh was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. He lost his courageous battle in August of 2023 at 47 years old.

FDNY Firefighter Robert E. Welsh III is survived by his wife, Jennifer, his children Mia, Maximus, and Nina, his mother, Lola, his siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
