On April 29, 2021, the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit made its first stop of the season at the Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, RI.
Hundreds of students at the school had the opportunity to tour the exhibit, and heard the stories from retired FDNY firefighters who responded on 9/11.
Ponaganset History teacher Christopher Stanley was instrumental in bringing the exhibit to his school, feeling it was important for his students, all of whom were born after 9/11, to learn about the events of that tragic day from true eyewitnesses to history.
“The team of firefighters who visited us helped students experience for themselves the indescribable horror and the countless good deeds done on that day,” said Stanley. “The students are sure to remember every firefighter and police officer who died in an effort to save lives,” he added. “Our students and community at large remember the blistering fires and acrid dust, the unsaid goodbyes and the painful loss of real heroes, because we all witnessed it through their eyes. The impact of your visit will no doubt leave an indelible mark on us – helping us unite and carry on the work the Tunnel to Towers Foundation started.”
On 9/11, Wells Crowther, who worked as an equities trader on the 104th floor, covered his face with a red bandanna and saved the lives of at least 10 people before giving up his own. He became known as the “Man In The Red Bandanna.” Welles’ mother, Alison Crowther, visited the exhibit on Friday, Apr. 30, to help share her son’s story.
This year is the 20th anniversary of both the September 11th attacks and the inception of the Foundation. In honor of this, Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit will spend 2021 traveling the country to vividly bring the events of that day to life for Americans who are unable to travel to New York City.
