Army Sgt Jason Smith joined the Army in March of 2009, following in the footsteps of both of his parents.
He deployed to southern Afghanistan in March 25, 2012.
Just four months into his deployment, on July 25, 2012, he stepped on an improvised explosive device and lost both of his legs and severely damaging his arms and hands.
Following the injury, Smith spent nearly two months in the hospital and nearly five months in rehab.
The injury did not rob Sgt Smith of his love of fitness, and he is currently working as a personal trainer for the nonprofit Catch a Lift, an organization designed for post 9/11 wounded veterans to help them regain their physical and mental health through fitness.
Smith also coaches for the Miracle League, which gives disabled children the opportunity to play baseball.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation provided a mortgage-free home for the family in smart home in Dunlap, Tennessee on Friday, December 20, 2019.
