DESCRIPTION:The Siller Family started the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory and carry on the legacy of their brother\, Stephen\, a New York City ­firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11\, 2001 after strapping 60 lbs. of gear to his back and rushing on foot through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers\, where he gave up his life while saving others. \nIn 2013\, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation launched its 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit; a tribute to all those who lost their lives on September 11\, 2001\, including\, of course\, the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice. The high-tech\, 53-foot tractor-trailer\, which transforms into a 1\,000 square foot exhibit\, is a tool to further educate citizens throughout the country about the events of that tragic day. \nWelcomed around the country\, from the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds\, the memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers\, documentary videos\, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath. DESCRIPTION:The Siller Family started the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory and carry on the legacy of their brother\, Stephen\, a New York City ­firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11\, 2001 after strapping 60 lbs. of gear to his back and rushing on foot through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers\, where he gave up his life while saving others. \nIn 2013\, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation launched its 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit; a tribute to all those who lost their lives on September 11\, 2001\, including\, of course\, the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice. The high-tech\, 53-foot tractor-trailer\, which transforms into a 1\,000 square foot exhibit\, is a tool to further educate citizens throughout the country about the events of that tragic day. \nWelcomed around the country\, from the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds\, the memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers\, documentary videos\, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 5th\, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will hold its sixth annual Tower Climb at New York’s One World Observatory. We hope you’ll choose to participate in the event\, and support the Foundation’s mission. The depth of emotion you will feel as you make your way up the steps of the building that symbolizes strength and hope\, and the resiliency and invincibility of the American spirit will be beyond words. Looking down at the two reflecting pools that mark the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood\, from the 102nd floor\, is a sight to behold. The event pays special homage to all 9/11 heroes and specifically\, FDNY Captain Billy Burke. On September 11\, 2001\, while responding to the attacks at the trade center\, Captain Burke stayed behind to save others on the 27th floor of the north tower\, while commanding other firefighters to get out of the building. He was already aware that the south tower had collapsed. He lost his life moments later. Captain Burke’s selflessness is legendary among those in his profession. Without support and generosity from citizens throughout the country\, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation could not carry out our very important endeavors.
